Set of 23 silver medals produced to commemorate the France 1998 football World Cup. The obverse of each medal features a head and shoulders portrait of a member of the England squad for the World Cup with an inscription giving their name and role within the team. The reverse of each medal features a three lions crest and the inscription, 'THE OFFICIAL ENGLAND SQUAD MEDAL COLLECTION 1998'.
The set of medals is held in a navy blue leather covered, hinged presentation case with two clasp fastenings. The exterior of the case features a silver tooled border, three lions motif and central inscription, 'Sainsbury's The Official England Supermarket ENGLAND The Official England Squad Silver Medal Collection 1998'. The same inscription is printed in silver on the white satin case lining.
This set of medals was made available through magazine advertisements rather than through Sainsbury's branches.
