Genesis was a review of central and support functions undertaken by Sainsbury's in 1994. According to the press release, the aim of Genesis was 'to concentrate effort on providing outstanding service throughout all parts of the business, and to simplify and rationalise operations, and eliminate overlaps and duplication'.

In 1994, Sainsbury's undertook a restructuring exercise called Genesis. The Genesis methodology required that a post-implementation review be undertaken of all projects. Each Retail Director was to survey their own area of responsibility and the review was sponsored by C I Harvey. The volume contains a review timetable, benefits model, a review of each project and a sample questionnaire.
