Analytical balance, model number A.D.4.. made by Stanton Instruments Ltd. of London. The balance features a central metal column topped by a short metal balance beam with a pan and a dampening pot suspended from each end.
The balance sits on a black glass plate inside a wooden case with colourless glass windows. The front a back windows can be lifted out and the side windows are hinged. A balance position bubble and a display window for making fine judgements are mounted at the front of the black glass plate.
A plastic knob attached to the right side of the case would have been used to operate lifting arms that apply wire weights to the right side of the balance beam. Three large metal weights can be found in the bottom of the balance case.
Four feet and two knobs for making adjustments are attached to the underside of the case.
