Store development press cuttings compilations, 1974-1980

Contains compilations of press cuttings from local, and some national newspapers about Sainsbury's plans to build stores, plans by other supermarkets to build stores and any factors that might affect the building of a store. They were issued irregularly.

The press cuttings are stuck onto A4 sheets and stapled together for circulation purposes. A circulation list, which includes John Davan Sainsbury (Mr JD), Timothy Sainsbury (Mr Timothy) and Mr Charles W Burdsey, is written in pen or typed in the top right hand corner of the first sheet of press cuttings. The date is usually written below the circulation list and, from August 1975, the number of the compilation e.g. 1st August 1975, No 100.

The files have also been referred to as the 'Burdsey files'. It may be because they were collected by Charles W Burdsey or put together under his direction. Mr Burdsey was Sainsbury's Property Director. The press cuttings appear to have been compiled by Public Relations.
