Geometric and stylised floral transfer-printed design under a colourless glaze. A raised inscription on the reverse includes the (partially obscured) makers name, 'MINTON, HOLLINS & Co PATENT TILE WORKS STOKE ON TRENT'. This style of tile was used on the counters of early Sainsbury's showpiece branches such as Lewisham, Balham and Brondesbury and is typical of the Sainsbury's house style.
