Video for Sainsbury's staff about the introduction of new procedures first trialled at Winchcombe Road (King's Road), Newbury branch to improve availability (ensuring shelves are fully stocked) and efficiency.
The video discusses the problems which had been faced at Newbury (such as gaps on shelves) and what was done to improve things.
The process to improve the store involved: new ways of working - everything is worked on during the night shift with stock moved from warehouse to shelves etc leaving the day shift to focus on the customer, helpdesks at distribution centres rather than needing to contact Holborn head office; staff engagement - new noticeboards, staff 'huddles' and feedback; team work between supply chain and retail; management of warehouse, dealing with 'overs'; the depot helping the stores.
Speaking on the video are: several members of staff and the management team at Newbury store, Lawrence Christensen (Supply Chain Director), Jon Hartland (Zone Managing Director), customers, John McFerran (depot manager - Basingstoke).
Includes footage of the interior of Newbury store including staff at work, the warehouse in the store, product displays, customers shopping, and also some exterior shots. Some footage of Basingstoke depot is also included.
This video was later incorporated in a new video, two years later for a convenience store training course (see AV/1029).
Duration: 11 minutes. Includes music "Marvellous" by the Lightning Seeds.
