Checkouts, computing and scanning

Papers, images, and objects relating to checkouts and tills, and computer systems (including barcode scanning and stock ordering systems) used at Sainsbury's branches.

The majority of items relate to the introduction of new computerised systems during the 1970s to 1990s in Sainsbury's branches - particularly new stock ordering systems, barcode systems at checkouts, and EFTPOS systems (which enabled electronic payments by credit and debit cards). A small number of items however relate to manual tills including items for cash handling.

Items include information and instructions for staff, reports and other papers, and items used at checkouts.
