"Briggens" (Extra Reward Points) television commercial

Television commercial (40 seconds) promoting Sainsbury's Reward Card (loyalty card) extra reward points promotion. It was filmed on 24th to 25th October 1996 at Mr Lighting Studios, London.

The advert starts with caption “There now follows an announcement for Sainsbury’s Reward Card holders…”. It shows products on a checkout and states the number of Reward Points which would be received. We then see the ‘customer’ who is television presenter Melanie Sykes who receives her Reward Vouchers. She says “By ‘eck chuck, that’s fantastic!” with a Lancashire accent [a pastiche of her Boddingtons beer commercials, which were well known at the time]. Ends with strapline "Now with even more point to it."

Advertising agency: Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO Ltd, reference AMV/SABR379/040. Background music is entitled "Thirty Something" - the theme to several 1990s Sainsbury's adverts.
