This cold chain system involved fresh fruit and vegetables being kept in a constantly chilled environment after being harvested. It was hoped that this would enable produce (fresh fruit and vegetables) to stay fresher for longer and enable the sale of new products which required temperature control. The trial had so far been going for four months, and as a result it was decided to introduce controlled temperature store rooms for produce at all major new branches. Further investigations of the system were planned.
