Image of Mrs Penfold at 31 London Road, Bognor Regis branch being congratulated on 60 years of shopping with Sainsbury's

Photograph included in 'JS Journal' September 1965 page 28 with caption "Mrs. Penfold being congratulated by Mr. Woods, Supervisor, and Mr. D. Moss, Manager, Bognor Regis, for 60 years' shopping with JS [Sainsbury's]. Until our Victoria branch opened in 1923 she travelled daily to JS [Sainsbury's] at Stockwell to get the "best and freshest goods". At the time she moved to Bognor there was no branch there so she shopped at Worthing. Now she has a local branch where, despite her 80 years, she still does her own shopping". Moss at the branch sent to Mr Woods' office at Sainsbury's Blackfriars headquarters dated 18 May 1965 and 6 July 1965 are also included. Most of the comments in the letter are included in the 'JS Journal' caption but it also gives further details about Mrs Penfold including that she had been a customer since 1905 and she had also patronized Streatham Hill branch.
