The branch was originally built as a Cargo Club members store. Due to the planning conditions under which the store was built, Sainsbury's was required to continue to operate it as a members-only store called Sainsbury's Club Store. Customers needed to register as members, live within a 20 minute driving distance of the store and play a £5 membership fee. The store later became a regular Sainsbury's supermarket after a planning application was approved which enabled the store to operate without the membership requirement.
