Photograph of Guildford Street in Chertsey in 1978, two years prior to the opening of a Sainsbury's branch in the town. A new Sainsbury's branch was opened in 1980 on a site just behind the shops and other buildings on the east side of Guildford Street. A shopping centre called the Sainsbury Centre would also be built as part of Sainsbury's development with an entrance further along Guildford Street - this would provide a pedestrian link from Guildford Street to the Sainsbury's store.
