Photograph showing the restoration of a pictorial mural map of the area and the location of Sainsbury's stores outside the Sainsbury's branch at Westhampnett Road, Chichester. The map was originally located outside the first Sainsbury's branch at 15 North Street opened in 1961 and was moved to the branch at Westhampnett Road when it opened in 1985. The mural map survived the fire which destroyed the 1985-1993 Westhampnett Road store, and was restored and reassembled at the new Westhampnett Road store opened in 1994. It was designed and carved by John Skelton in granite and then painted and gilded. The man shown in this photo restoring it appears to be Skelton himself. The picture is included in 'JS Journal' November 1994.
