The float was organized by the staff from the Sainsbury's branch at 41 High Street, Colchester. Staff at the branch had formed the '41' club to organize activities like this float. The staff had dressed in costumes from throughout the company's 70 year history and was based on a contemporary advertising campaign (see SA/MARK/ADV/3/3/1/39 for example). The photograph appears to have been taken near to the entrance to Colchester Castle on Cowdray Crescent.
