The store first opened in 1906 at 143 High Street. The adjacent premises were purchased in 1935 and opened as a second shop. In 1961 the street was renumbered and the store was now numbered 148-150 High Street. At about the same time work began on rebuilding the store as a new self-service store, but the store remained open throughout this work which was completed in 1963. The store was refurbished in 1990 including a new facade.
