Photograph of the Sainsbury's branch in Guildford town centre. In the window are posters 'There's real value at Sainsbury's' and 'Bacon boiling joints cheaper'.
The two different parts of the branch can be seen. The original shop opened in 1906 is on the left hand side (this included the grocery department, the butter and cheese counters). On the right hand side is a later extension to the branch opened in the adjacent premises in 1935 (this included the fresh meat and cooked meats departments). As can be seen through the windows, the two parts of the branch had different tiling. The branch was originally numbered 143 High Street but later (circa 1960) renumbered as 148-150 High Street.
