Photograph showing Chapel Market in Islington, London during the construction of an extension to Marks & Spencer's department store. Two former Sainsbury's branches had been on the site of the Marks & Spencer extension. Immediately to the right of the existing Marks & Spencer entrance was the site of Sainsbury's branch at 48 Chapel Market (opened in 1882 and closed in 1962), and at the far right end of the M&S extension was the site of Sainsbury's branch at 51 Chapel Market (opened in 1887 and closed in 1898). The picture is a copy of a photo held at the M&S Company Archive (http://marksintime.marksandspencer.com). A reference 13795-2 is written on the back and a caption "1964 Chapel Market rebuilding".
