This branch was part of a chain of shops which Sainsbury's acquired when it went bankrupt in 1936. It was one of the nine former Thoroughgood's branches retained by Sainsbury's in the Midlands; those furthest from the Blackfriars depot were sold. A "J. Sainsbury's Archives" caption found with image notes that "Cheapside, Nottingham in 1936. This was one of the largest Thoroughgoods that JS took over and it also boasted some very ornate interior tiling." Image may be by Mr F.R. Parker (see 'JS Journal' February 1961, p.26).
