This branch was part of a chain of shops which Sainsbury's acquired when it went bankrupt in 1936. It was one of the nine former Thoroughgood's branches retained by Sainsbury's in the Midlands; those furthest from the Blackfriars depot were sold. A "J. Sainsbury's Archives" caption found with image notes that "The 13, Carrington Street Nottingham branch was already closed when this was taken, and the Cadbury Bournville sign above the shop was soon to be removed." Image may be by Mr F.R. Parker (see 'JS Journal' February 1961, p.26).
