I cut many many wheels of Jarlsberg in that very room, I loved making up the cheesewires, I got very Zen cutting up cheese for some reason.
My very first job at 16 was working in this store from Sept '73 until May '75 when I transferred to Wembley Central in 'the big smoke'. Many many friends and good times at Oxford, Colin McShea (was my best man at my wedding in '78) Colin Greenfield, Steve Titcombe and his sister Jenny, Maggie Grundy, Janet Webb, Sandra Dicknson. Maureen (?) Walker personnel who hired me, (later went to Uxbridge in '78). Roy Harrison Manager, Ron Powell deputy mgr, Arthur Holland Groc mgr, Dick Janckiewicz, Provisions mgr, Mick Barrett Butchery mgr, Mike Deane Dept groc mgr, Bill Hoggett, warehouse mgr. And of course the many many trips to the Duke of York pub after work right behind the Westgate ctr (now sadly demolished). Darts, pinball and learned how lethal whiskey macs could be. So very grateful for the excellent start that Sainsburys gave me. Richard Gosnell (now 66)
