Photograph taken at the in-store bakery at Telford (1973-1990) branch shortly before opening. The photograph is included in 'JS Journal' November 1973 with the caption "the Telford bakery also produces pastries as well as a full range of loaves. In addition, a normal range of wrapped and sliced bread is available in the main body of the shop. Here, quality controller Derek Brownhill, doing a temporary stint in the bakery, puts some pastries fresh from the ovens into a storage rack". As explained in 'JS Journal', the bakery was only completed the day before the opening so it had not been possible to train new staff in time for the opening. This was Sainsbury's first in-store bakery. Photograph by Brian Shuel (reference SSB 18 frame 5).
