Photograph showing an employee, presumably from the Sainsbury's branch at 21 The Parade (originally numbered 5 The Parade), High Street, Watford promoting Crelos Margarine (Sainsbury's own-brand). She won first prize with this costume at the skating carnival in Watford. There is an article about the picture in 'JS Journal' June 1985 page 24. The article explains that "This handsome lady, probably a clerk at the branch, won first prize for her presentation of a Crelos margarine saleswoman. Crelos, one of Sainsbury's most celebrated own-label lines, had been introduced in the 1890s and at eight pence a pound was a healthy and economical alternative to butter. In her basket she carries not only packs of the margarine, but also a 2 lb rose made in a special mould usually employed for creating window displays. Pinned to her apron is a postcard of a type commonly used by JS for introducing products and special offers to customers". See also SA/EMP/SOC/1/7 for a letter relating to Sainsbury's participation in the skating carnival.
