The Penny Back scheme was launched in January 1991 to encourage the reuse of carrier bags. A customer was given a penny for each carrier bag they reused which could go in charity boxes placed in stores.
Also contains a programme for Sainsbury's Classic Cola Basketball for All. This was an initial two year sponsorship deal in association with the English Basketball Association aimed at encouraging the development of basketball through 3 v 3, a popular American street sport.
