Papers relating to the Sainsbury's Pictures for Schools scheme. It offered reproductions of a selection of paintings from various art galleries to schools. A range of accompanying resources related to the pictures were also sent to the schools. These include postcards of the pictures, notes for teachers, and BBC video and audio programmes relating to the pictures. The scheme was launched in 1993 and was funded and organized by Sainsbury's.
The schools invited to take part in the scheme were located close to a Sainsbury's store and a presentation of the pictures was given at the store.
The scheme was managed by the Arts Sponsorship section of Sainsbury's Public Relations Department, then later by the Community Affairs Department.
