Green issues

Correspondence, articles, awards, conference papers, information sheets, policy and guidelines, reports, presentations, images and other items relating to environmental issues at Sainsbury's and its subsidiaries.

Most of the papers in this SubFonds appear to have originated from Sainsbury's Environment Affairs Committee, the Environment Affairs Manager, and Environmental Management Department (alternatively called Environment Affairs Department). The Environment Affairs Committee (EAC) met to discuss environmental affairs across the various departments and divisions of the company including subsidiaries. In January 1990, the post of Environment Affairs Manager was created (reporting to the chairman of the EAC) to co-ordinate the company's work on environmental issues.

Other papers relating to environmental issues especially those which relate to a specific function or department of the company can be found elsewhere in the collection. Advertising material and customer leaflets are included in SA/MARK/ADV. Public relations material such as press releases and press cuttings is included in SA/PR. Staff communications such as newsletters on energy efficiency are included in SA/SC. Papers relating to the impact of the development of stores on the local environment are included in SA/BRA/1.
