This subfonds includes material relating to Sainsbury's transport and distribution network. This includes delivery from depots to branches, home delivery, vehicles, horses and distribution developments. Includes seven files of images of Sainsbury's transport, vehicles and distribution. In JS Journal March 1949, John Benjamin Sainsbury recalled their first "one single-horse van", about the time that Allcroft Road Depot was opened (c.1882). This cart was built by William Cobb (1837-1923) . He was descended from generations of Norfolk village wheelwrights and lived with his family at No. 1 Hanover Street, in Kentish Town, not far from the Sainsburys. See also depots SA/DEP for more on the distribution network.
