Each card includes the name of the employee, their home address, their date of birth and when they joined the company. It also gives the name of the branch and department they worked in, when they joined the department or branch and when they left. The card had to be handed back to Sainsbury's when the holder left the company.
One card has its own envelope. On the front cover it contains 'practical points on which seniors must be competent'. On the back cover there are 'actual questions on salesman's report answered by Manager and District Supervisor e.g. 'Does he hold his head up whilst at work?', 'Has he a pleasant manner with customers?. The other contains a card explaining how wages can be earned and includes the following advice, 'By the full use of the power of observation' or 'By the creation of general customers'.
