Magazine for Sainsbury's Veterans containing articles and news about staff, the business and the organisation of events for veterans e.g. reunions and excursions. 'Veterans' are retired members of Sainsbury's staff (who met certain eligibility criteria, such as a minimum length of service with the company).
It was originally titled 'JS Veterans News', then became 'Veterans News' by 1999 and 'The News' in 2019.
The magazine was originally issued alongside a separate publication 'JSV Informer' (see SA/EMP/SOC/2/6/4) which was a more basic newsletter containing updates on Veterans (eg a list of new Veterans) and upcoming events. These two publications 'JSV Informer' and 'JS Veterans News' superseded the previous 'JS Veterans Newsletter' (see SA/EMP/SOC/2/6/1).
From summer 1999, the two publications were merged together into a new expanded 'Veterans News' and from this date the magazine included updates on new members of the Veterans group, birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and obituaries.
The magazine includes photographs and other illustrations, some of which can be found at SA/EMP/SOC/2/6/4.
Since 2019, when the magazine was retitled 'The News' it has been published partially as a hardcopy printed magazine (with a digital copy also available from a website available to Veterans) and partially as digital only updates.
Not all issues have been deposited in the archive. Issues after April 2019 are held by the archive in digital format (PDF) only.
