Photograph which is part of a set which shows streets and buildings in the areas of London which are associated with the birthplaces and early years of the family of John James and Mary Ann Sainsbury. Photograph by Brian Shuel (reference SE 31/4). The photo shows Peter Street (off Wardour Street), which according to a note was where John Sainsbury senior (the father of John James Sainsbury) lived for a while. The handwritten note accompanying the photos (perhaps written by Brian Shuel) explains that "No 3 seems to have changed less than the buildings around it though it is now a sleazy bookshop and the door bells have interesting names on them". Presumably number 3 was John Sainsbury's house. On the photo can also be seen a Wimpy Bar and a shop with poster advertising the Animals playing at the Scene Club.
