Video which appears to show all or part of Lord Sainsbury's speech to the House of Lords in support of the Food Safety Bill. It is unclear how the footage was intended to be used.
The label on the tape or an old finding aid describes the speech as follows: "mentions presence at opening of store at Whitley Bay and his 40 years with Sainsbury's. Standards of food safety higher than ever including in comparison with the US. But standards capable of being raised further and risk of food poisoning further reduced. Supports food irradiation - world scientific opinion believes it to be safe, some customer demand exists. Emphasizes importance of local authority trading standards. Proposes creation of post of Chief Food Officer an analogy of Chief Medical Officer."
This video has not been digitized, and so the description is based on the tape label which may be inaccurate.
