Volume containing various tables relating to Sainsbury's balance sheet for 1946/47 including the opening balances at the start of the year and the certified balances at the end of the year. The tables appear to have been created using the Powers-Samas accounting machines which were used by the company.
The volume contains the following tables:
1. "Balance sheet summary by financial account as certified by Messrs. Clark Battams & Co. as at 23rd March, 1946" (1 page). Gives the total opening balances for various financial accounts (such as S1 Freehold Land & Buildings, S41 Branch Stocks).
2. "Balance sheet analysis agreeing with schedules...". Gives the opening balances under the headings "Fixed assets at cost, less realisation and depreciation", "Depot plant, fixtures and equipment acquired since 1943", "Depot utensils", "Depot and Manufacturing Stocks", "Depot debtors less reserve", "Payments in advance", "Cash at bank and in hand", "Trade creditors".
3. "Adjustment of opening balances to conform with Blue Book instructions"
4. "Balance sheet analysis after adjustment to conform with Blue Book instructions or schedules as certified by directors"
5. "Certified balances as at 22nd March 1947"
