Rates Book 1, 1888-95

Ledger containing details of payments of rents, taxes, insurance and utility bills for properties occupied by Sainsbury's (mainly branches but also other premises such as the Allcroft Road warehouse in Kentish Town). Includes rent, insurance, Queen's taxes, poor and general rate, water rates and gas paid throughout the year. The ledger is in a double entry bookkeeping format with debits on the left and credits on the right.

The volume also includes the name of the landlord of the property (including properties owned by John James Sainsbury), the assessments for taxes and rates, the annual rent, and address of the property. At the front the addresses of the landlords are given.
