Ledger of transactions relating to rent, tax, utility and insurance payments by Sainsbury's on its properties. The ledger is in a double entry bookkeeping format with each debit entry on the left being balanced by the credit entries on the right.
The volume starts with accounts for rent and insurance on individual properties (mainly branches). The name of the landlord and the annual rent is given for each property. The properties listed are mainly branches but also include some other premises such as the Blackfriars head office buildings. The properties are mainly in alphabetical order, but premises which were rented by landlords who owned multiple properties used by the company are often listed in a single account for each landlord (figures are however given for each individual property). For example the Lewisham 114 High St property is in the same account as Croydon 65 South End because these two properties shared the same landlord. Accounts for major landlords including Cluttons, J.B. Sainsbury, Cheyne Syndicate, G. Sainsbury and J.J. Sainsbury are listed separately. There are also depot rent charge accounts which appear to concern rents charged by head office to branches for the usage of the branch premises.
Towards the end of the volume are accounts with insurance companies.
Unindexed.
