Double entry account book with sums received on the left and sums paid on the right. Accounts are included for each property which was rented to Sainsbury's (includes leased properties for which a ground rent was payable). These properties include branches and various other properties such as a garage at Addiscombe, a property in Tullamore, Ireland (of unknown usage) and a railway arch. Premises which were rented by landlords who owned multiple properties used by the company are often listed in a single account for each landlord (figures are however given for each individual property). Major landlords include G. Sainsbury, Cluttons, the Cheyne Syndicate Ltd (an associated company), and the executors of J.J. Sainsbury.
The left hand figures typically include: To Chq [Cheque], To Sch. A [possibly refers to Schedule A Income Tax?], To Bal[ance]. The right hand figures typically include: By rent, By insurance.
For each property the name of the landlord and the annual rent is also given.
Some other tables are included:
'Depot rent charges' (presumably rents charged by head office to branches for the usage of the branch premises), page 301-
'Estimated a/cs' (for water, electricity, gas), page 351-5
