Volume containing details of payments of rents, taxes, insurance and utility bills for properties occupied by Sainsbury's (mainly branches but also other premises such as the Blackfriars head office buildings). Includes rent, insurance, Queen's taxes, poor and general rate, water rates and gas paid throughout the year. The volume was initially compiled as a ledger in a double entry bookkeeping format with debits on the left and credits on the right. From April 1897 however the volume only lists the payments made, without giving specific details of the individual transactions (such as the exact date of those payments).
The volume also often includes the name of the landlord of the property, the assessments for taxes and rates, the annual rent, and address of the property.
At the front of the volume there is a 'schedule of particulars to be rendered under the Act of 32 & 33 Vict., c. 67, by every occupier of rateable property in the metropolis' which contains such details as the name of the occupier and whether the property was leased. This schedule only covers 16 properties in the central London area. In addition the addresses of the landlords of properties are given.
A small number of letters and notes relating to the payments are also included in the volume.
