Photograph by Brian Shuel. The picture is part of a set of black and white images most of which are similar to or show the same subject as the colour images published in the book 'JS 100: The Story of Sainsbury's' edited by James Boswell (1969). This image is of the training course depicted on page 93 of 'JS 100'. 'JS 100' explains it shows "A group of training specialists in session at their introductory course. They are all assistant managers learning how to teach new staff either at a supermarket before it opens or at the training centre at Blackfriars". The location is not specified but the background through the window (visible on some photos in this set) indicates that this was not taken at the Blackfriars head office but in an unidentified suburban or rural location.
