Photographs 1 to 17 show the counting of money into staff pay packets at Sainsbury's Blackfriars headquarters. Two pensioners, ex-Sainsbury's staff make up the pay packets with cashier Stan Pitt. One of the photographs features in JS Journal January 1975 ("Workers' paytime" page 4-5).
Photographs 18 to 30 show the winners of the branch smiler competitions celebration lunch and cheque presentations on 9 January at Dulwich management training centre in south east London.
The competitions were for branch staff. There were five winners of the main courtesy competition which "involved the choosing of six out of 12 important things that branch staff should do for the customer, and putting them in order of priority" and five winners of a 'smiler slogans' competition. The presentations were given by Peter Snow (director) and also attended by Roy Griffiths, Len Lewis, Jim Woods, and Peter Ireson. See JS Journal January 1975 ("Successful smilers collect their prizes" page 2).
