Television commercial (30 seconds) which was part of Sainsbury’s “You voted for it, Now it’s in store” promotion, in which products voted for by customers were introduced to stores.
The promotion started on 12 July 1998 (according to JS Journal July-August 1998 page 3) and was the second phase of the “More Choice, Because It’s Your Choice” marketing campaign which asked customers to vote for which products they wanted in Sainsbury’s stores.
The advertisement features comedian Hugh Dennis doing a spoof election night programme in which he explains that customers wanted more organic, lower-fat and vegetarian products, and that more of these products were being introduced. Computer graphics in the style of those on election night programmes (eg the ‘swingometer’) are shown.
Advertising agency seems to be Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO Ltd.
