Television commercial (40 seconds) promoting Christmas gifts available at Sainsbury’s.
The advertisement shows John Cleese (comedian) at home giving out various gifts purchased from Sainsbury's to the family “with a touch of magic” and pulling them out of a hat. For the last gift he ends up pulling out an unending series of rabbits from the hat instead of the gift. Endline “Sainsbury’s. Hundreds of great Christmas gifts from as little as 99p”.
Advertising agency reference AMV/SACH444/040. Background music is an instrumental version of ‘Good King Wenceslas’/’Tempus adest floridum’.
Two other versions of this advertisement are also included. One appears to be an early unfinished version of the commercial. The other labelled as a 'spoof' features a series of out-takes (or intentional errors?) of John Cleese failing to perform a magic trick where he pulls a Sainsbury's Aromatherapy Kit out of a top hat as a Christmas present. This version ends with slogan "Christmas isn't Christmas without Sainsbury's." - it is unclear whether this version was actually broadcast.
