Television commercial (1 minute) promoting Sainsbury's January Savers campaign. The advert was filmed at Pinewood Studios 'D' Stage on 14th and 15th December 1995, the recording date was 22 December 1995 and it was due to be aired on television from 1 January 1996. The clock number (reference number for the advert) is AMV/SALY361/060.
The advertisement features customers moving around a branch, talking to each other or themselves (e.g. "Power Rangers for Christmas? Bowls of gruel for the rest of the year") and noticing the January Savers special offers (price reductions and multibuys) on various products. A voiceover explains that Sainsbury's has listened to customers and decided they don't want "points" (i.e. loyalty or reward cards), they want pounds in their pockets. Details of offers appear as text onscreen. The commercial ends with voiceover saying "Sainsbury's, Where good food costs less" slogan and January Savers overhead sign onscreen. Background music is entitled "Thirtysomething" - used as the theme to several 1990s Sainsbury's adverts.
See AV/193 for footage of the making of the commercial. It was all filmed in a single take with the camera being moved across the set.
