The advertisement starts with presenter Michael Barratt in the chilled aisle of a Sainsbury's store "What does Discount '78 mean to Sainsbury's shoppers...". It then shows a series of vox-pop comments from customers in a Sainsbury's store about the discounts they enjoy, and captions show the discounted prices (beginning with Sainsbury's Instant Coffee at £1.50).

The commercial ends with Barratt saying "It's the best thing that's happened since" and a customer says "sliced bread" with a caption showing the discounted price for bread. No slogan is included.
