Television commercial (30 seconds) entitled 'Space Odyssey' promoting Sainsbury's Novon 2000 laundry detergent. The advert was filmed on 19 to 21 September 1995 at Shepperton Studios T Stage, recorded on 10th October 1995 and was due to air on television from 15th October 1995. It has a clock number (reference number for the advert) of AMV/SASO355/030.
The advert depicts two female astronauts ('Clarke' played by Sharon Bennett and 'Kubrick' by Laurel Lefkow) on a space station. One is doing the laundry and explains the benefits of the product and the money back guarantee to the other two. A male astronaut 'Boris' (played by Dugald Bruce Lockhart) knocks on the window holding his laundry. Endline "Novon 2000. Now available on Earth". End caption: "Sainsbury's. Everyone's favourite ingredient.". The voiceover was by Paul McGann and background music is the "Thirty Something" theme used in several 1990s Sainsbury's adverts (see audio cassette 607).
