Television commercial (40 seconds) about Sainsbury’s range of wines and a promotion in which customers could return a wine if they didn’t like it, even after it was opened.
The advertisement shows a man who is worried about bringing a bottle of wine to dinner at his boss’s home. He is eager to impress the boss and get promoted. His partner explains to the camera about Sainsbury’s range of around 500 wines and promotion enabling customers to return wine if they didn’t like it. Ends with caption “Sainsbury’s. Special wines at everyday prices”.
Advertising agency: AMV BBDO plc. Advertising agency reference AMV/SAB0376/040. The background music is a theme used in several Sainsbury’s 1990s commercials entitled “Thirty Something”.
A similar advertisement (referred to as 'Wine' on some tapes) is also included with slightly different dialogue and no slogan at the end. This is possibly an unfinished version of the advertisement, there are also tapes labelled 'Wine Vers. 1' and 'Wine Alt End Line 2x re-cuts' which may be other early unfinished versions but these have not been digitized.
