Sainsbury Archive Logo
Television commercial (20 seconds) promoting the last week of Sainsbury's 125th birthday celebrations (to end on 11 March).

The anniversary promotions included a prize draw and special offers on products. The advertisement has a light-hearted, humorous tone using historic imagery (including Romford branch in 1905, see SA/BRA/7/R/9/1/3) and film footage superimposed with modern images such as historic characters holding modern Sainsbury's carrier bags. The advert features film clips from a market, a Sherlock Holmes film with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, comedians Jo Weber and Lou Fields, 'Little Tich and His Big Boots' (1900), and 'Fatima's Dance' (filmed at the World's Fair, Chicago 1893).

Advertising agency: Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO Ltd (reference AMV/SABI288/020). Video from The Moving Picture Company. First airdate 4th March 1995.
