"Summer at Sainsbury's" booklet

Brochure (68 page glossy illustrated A4 size booklet) promoting products on sale at Sainsbury's during summer 2000 including recipes, vouchers, and food ideas. The booklet was available for free to Sainsbury's customers and features the 'Making Life Taste Better' slogan.

Includes features on: new products, barbecues, fish, olive oil and fresh herbs, French bread, ready-to-eat salads and ready meals, honey, the tasteforlife.co.uk website, value family meals with Brtish meat, organic foods, fennel, cheese, questions on genetically modified (GM) foods, Cape and Outspan fruits, ice cream, children's baking, children's packed lunches, and sun care products.

There was an issue with an article on page 15 which omitted to indicate the correct storage advice for creating your own herb-flavoured oils. A flyer "Important customer advice..." was issued to inform customers of the correct storage practices.

The booklet is divided into the following sections:
"What's new in store" - promotes a wide range of new own-brand and supplier branded products.
"Did you know?" - including information on salt being reduced in Sainsbury's foods; promotes: Hellmann's Dressings; Sainsbury's new Calais supermarket; and Sainsbury's Drinks Club.
"Summer barbecues" - promotes barbecue foods including Sainsbury's Special Selection Sausages with Sainsbury's Tex 'n' Mex Flour Tortillas, Sainsbury's Quarterpounders, fresh fish, Sainsbury's Fresh 'n' Ready salads, Sainsbury's ready-prepared barbecue meats range and Lea & Perrins 5 Minute Marinades; recipes (quick and sticky, tangy barbecue sauce; summer sangria punch; swordfish with lime, soy and pawpaw and mango salsa; noodle salad with soy sauce).
"Olive oil and fresh herbs" - promotes olive oils, herbs (including Sainsbury's Fresh Herbs range), vinegars and Italian-style bread; recipes (pasta with oregano and olive oil; pork steaks with thyme, sage and balsamic marinade; fennel, dill and red onion salad).
"French bread" - promotes Sainsbury's Pavé bread; recipes (toasted Pavé walnut bread and feta cheese; and Pavé bread summer salad).
"Lazy summer eating" - promotes ready meals, snacks, salads and desserts such as Sainsbury's Spaghetti and Meatballs, Sainsbury's Summer Berry Fruits Tart, Sainsbury's Be Good to Yourself Tomato and Basil Mini Chicken Fillets, Sainsbury's Pizzeria range, Sainsbury's Taste the World 'pizza' range, Sainsbury's ready-to-heat and-eat fruit tarts, Sainsbury's cream range, and Sainsbury's Fresh 'n' Ready fruit; recipe for skewered tomato and basil chicken.
"Sweet as honey" - promotes honey; recipe for: honey and saffron tart.
"www.tasteforlife.co.uk" - promotes Sainsbury's Taste for Life website which includes recipes and information such as about organic food and wines, includes screenshots and details of the contents of the site.
"Save £6.75 at the checkout" - money-off vouchers for various products.
"Did you know?" - information about 'sweetness guaranteed' melons, Sainsbury's working with Diabetes UK, ready to cook meats and Kleenex Balsam tissues.
"Great value family meals" - recipes with British meat (garlic and herb marinated lamb steaks; summer roast lamb; lamb macaroni bake; summer koftas; steak sandwich; sirloin steak on a croute with pesto and griddled tomatoes).
"Organic summer menu" - promotes organic food including Sainsbury's Organic range and Green & Black's chocolate and cocoa; recipes (organic smoked salmon, avocado and baby spinach salad; organic chocolate and orange fondant puddings; pan-fried organic pork with caramelised apples and summer vegetables).
"All about fennel" - promotes fennel.
"Cheese boards" - promotes speciality cheeses.
"Can you spot the non-GM biscuit?" - information about Sainsbury's removing genetically modified ingredients from own-label products.
"Cape and Outspan" - promotes Cape apples and Outspan oranges from South Africa, and Fyffes bananas; recipes for: Outspan orange and melon minted salad; Fyffes Banoffee French toast; poached Cape apples with clotted cream and blueberries.
"Ice cream" - promotes Sainsbury's ice creams (including Sainsbury's Indulgence range and Sainsbury's Handmade Farmhouse Ice Cream) and related products (sauces and biscuits etc for ice cream); recipes (raspberry pavlova mascarpone sundae; mango float with Vanilla Virtuoso Ice Cream; griddled nectarines with Raspberry Pavlova Ice Cream; lemon curd ice cream pancakes).
"Children's eats" - suggestions of Sainsbury's own-brand foods for children's packed lunches; recipes for children (fun-sized cakes; Sandwich Filler pitta pockets; chocolate-filled scones; mini pasta salad; blueberry and white chocolate baubles); promotes products for children's baking including Kids Buckets of Baking kits and Supercook decorations.
"Summertime sun care" - promotes Sainsbury's own-brand toiletries (Sun Care range, premium body care range, sachets, and Specialist Haircare range).
