The price list was produced to promote the opening of a new branch of Sainsbury's in Hythe and to tell potential new customers about the range of products available and their prices.
It is hard to see any order in the layout of the pamphlet although similar products from the various departments are listed next to each other. In general dairy products are listed at the start of the pamphlet, charcuterie, groceries and "sundries" (mostly assorted dry groceries) in the middle and meat and poultry at the end. Each page is headed with the nature of the products listed on those pages and has a promotional slogan at the foot of the page.
The front cover is illustrated with a colour image of a town crier bearing a scroll giving details of the new store's opening date; the back cover is blank. The pamphlet has 32 folios. Indexed but with no allocated space for a shopping list.
The introduction to the pamphlet also gives information about the first manager of the branch.
