The price list covers the full range of Sainsbury's products, i.e. meat, poultry and game, groceries and provisions.
It is hard to see any order in the layout of the pamphlet although similar products from the various departments are listed next to each other. In general dairy products are listed at the start of the pamphlet, groceries and "sundries" (mostly charcuterie) in the middle and meat and poultry at the end. Each page is headed with a title stating the nature of the products listed on those pages and a line drawing of typical products, at the foot of each page there is a promotional slogan. The front cover is illustrated with a photograph of hams, bacon, poultry and eggs; the back cover features an advertisement for Sainsbury's tea captioned "The Shop Window This Week". The pamphlet has 32 folios. Indexed, but with no allocated space for a shopping list.
The price list was valid for a fortnight, subject to market fluctuations.
The pamphlet has been stamped with the branch address of the Portslade branch (26 Station Road) on the front cover.
There is a loose folio giving two "Sainsbury Suggestion for your Menu", namely recipe suggestions for Cold Duckling (boned and stuffed) and Medaillons of Veal [sic]; on both recipes the ingredients available at Sainsbury's have been marked with an asterisk.
