The price list covers the full range of Sainsbury's products, i.e. meat, poultry and game, groceries and provisions.
It is hard to see any order in the layout of the pamphlet although similar products from the various departments are listed next to each other. In general dairy products are listed at the start of the pamphlet, charcuterie, groceries and "sundries" (mostly assorted groceries) in the middle and meat and poultry at the end.
Each page is headed with a title stating the nature of the products listed on those pages and a line drawing of typical products, at the foot of each page there is a promotional slogan. The front cover is illustrated with a photograph of hams, bacon, poultry and eggs; the back cover features an advertisement for Sainsbury's Scotch Beef [sic] captioned "The Shop Window This Week". The pamphlet has 32 folios. Indexed, the final page is formatted to allocate space for a shopping list.
The price list was valid for a fortnight, subject to market fluctuations.
There is a loose leaf folio ("A Sainsbury Suggestion for Your Menu") containing information about rice and three recipes: a West Indian recipe for cooking rice, pilaff and tomatoes stuffed with rice.
