Three adverts featuring the tagline “Good food really does cost less at Sainsbury’s”. They feature a sequence of still images with voiceover (seems to be by actor Simon Cadell). These are probably 'photomatics' rather than finished advertisements. Photomatics consist of photos edited into a sequence with sound, to give an impression of an advertisement so that it could be assessed while avoiding the full costs of production (similar to an 'animatic' but using photos). No finished advertisements similar to these have been found in the archive, so it seems unlikely the adverts were completed and broadcast. It is possible that these may have been used in a pitch for the television advertising contract by agency Lowe Howard-Spink Campbell-Ewald.
1. Advert focuses on a man watching Sainsbury’s prices as though they were stocks and shares and discusses the misconception that Sainsbury’s prices are higher than other supermarkets. Features Wandsworth (Arndale Centre) branch exterior.
