Packaging, packaging designs, and images of packaging for Sainsbury's own brand non-food products such as household products.
Packaging, packaging designs, and images of packaging for Sainsbury's own brand products. The packaging includes labels and constructed packaging (such as boxes and bottles).
This section of the catalogue contains mainly items relating to specific products. Items relating to multiple product types, and items relating to packaging in general are mainly contained within SA/PKC/PAC.
Items are included from the 1890s to the present day. The majority of items however date from the 1960s to present. This reflects the change to self-service resulting in a greater number of pre-packaged goods and the increase in variety of goods sold at Sainsbury's stores. Most of the packaging included is for items which would have been pre-packed at a factory. However some packaging is included for items which would have been packed in the store - on the counter of a counter service shop, in the preparation rooms of a self-service store, or at a modern service counter (such as a delicatessen counter).
The packaging includes many items designed by Sainsbury's in-house design studio. Some additional items relating to packaging designed by the design studio are included in SA/DES.
Packaging for goods branded with the names of Sainsbury's former subsidiaries such as Homebase, Shaw's and Savacentre are not included in this series.
